Coach Sean McVay has done an incredible job of getting Gurley out in space where all he has to do is beat defenders one-on-one and not necessarily read blocks.
Cowboys (5-4): Things didn’t go so great for Dallas in its first game with Dave Henderson Authentic Jersey Ezekiel Elliott suspended, with a 20-point loss to the Falcons snapping a three-game winning streak. But the Cowboys’ next three games are at home, starting with Sunday night’s key battle against the Eagles. A loss wouldn’t mathematically end Dallas’s NFC East hopes, but it would make things exceedingly difficult both in terms of the division and the wild card.
Lions (5-4): Of Detroit’s remaining opponents, only the Vikings 锟斤拷 whom the Lions already have beaten 锟斤拷 would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.
Packers (5-4): The injuries really are starting to pile up for Green Bay, even beyond Aaron Rodgers. Running backs Aaron Jones and Ty Montgomery both departed Sunday’s win over the Bears, and quarterback Brett Hundley injured his hamstring. But if the Packers can cobble together some wins on a schedule that features teams such as the Ravens, Bucs and Browns over the next four weeks (plus the Steelers), could Green Bay be primed to make a push should Rodgers return from his broken collarbone in December?
As such, Gurley has already surpassed his broken tackle total from a season ago (47 vs. 41). As long as Gurley has those defined reads, his natural talent as a runner will shine through.
There’s the 6-foot-7 McCowan, who continues to improve her footwork and has become one of the premiere post players in the country. She had 12 points and 18 rebounds Sunday, leading the Bulldogs’ 44-33 edge over the Lady Vols on the boards. Tennessee got only 11 second-chance points, thanks in large part to McCowan’s dominating presence inside. McCowan leads the SEC in rebounding at 13.1 per game, and she’s also averaging 20.4 points, which is third-best in the SEC.
And then there’s Vivians, who at 19.5 PPG is fourth in the league in scoring. She was on Schaefer’s radar the second he took the Mississippi State job in 2012. She scored 5,745 points at Scott Central High in Carthage, Mississippi, and has continued her high-scoring ways for the Bulldogs.
What stands out about Vivians this season, though, is her efficiency. She was known more as a high-volume shooter during her first three years, when she shot 37.4 percent from the field (30.5 from 3-point range).
